Phone recycling company’s new advertising campaign
A Birmingham-based video production company has produced a £1.5 million advertising campaign for a mobile phone recycling firm.
The commercial that features magician Paul Daniels and his assistant Debbie McGee was aired on digital pay-per-view and cable channels on March 1 2010.
This will now be extended to terrestrial television where it will run for 3 months. An exact date for the launch has not been confirmed.
The company behind it Mazuma Mobile was established in 2007 and is part of the Ventura Telecom Group based in Herefordshire who were formed in 2003 to promote the recycling and re-use of mobile phones.
Mazuma, hired Koala Limited, a video production company based in Birmingham to produce a marketing campaign that would increase awareness of mobile phone recycling.
They have an average of 150, 000 mobiles delivered to them each month.
Charlo Carabott, Managing Director of Mazuma in Watford, London, said:
‘This new magic-themed campaign will reinforce the message that there is cash to be made from mobile phones, in a creative and fun way that we believe consumers will love.’
Helping charities by recycling
The recycling of mobile phones through the use of social media is rapidly becoming popular with a number of websites promoting recycling services to the public.
A number of charities, including Oxfam are encouraging people to send in their unused mobile phones so they can be recycled and the money used to buy much needed equipment for schools.
The British Red Cross has similarly introduced mobile phone recycling schemes. They have estimated that between ’60-90′ million mobile phones are discarded each year.
A Red Cross Spokesperson said :
‘Mobile phones which are discarded, usually end up in landfill sites. The toxic material that is released is a threat to health and the environment. If mobile phones are recycled, their components can be re-used and this is much more better for the environment and for charities like us where the money can be used to help others.’
