H&M eco friendly collection comes to Birmingham this month

The international fashion brand H&M launches its first sustainable Collection ‘The Garden Collection’ on the 25th of March 2010.

The whole collection is made of environmentally adapted materials like recycled polyester, organic cotton, organic linen and tencel.

The manager of H&M Birmingham, Claire Wakeman said that all the garments have been produced using sustainable materials or using recycled PET bottles or textile waste.

The aim is to promote organic cotton growing as part of its efforts to achieve sustainable production and limit its negative impact on the environment.

Claire said:

‘Respect for the environment is important to us, and to our customers. We started to use organic cotton into our Baby and Children’s collections in 2004.

We will use approximately 3,000 tonnes of organic cotton in 2010, and our aim is to increase our use of this material by at least 50% by 2013.

Organic cotton and linen is grown without the use of harmful chemicals or artificial fertilizers and in this way is better for the environment and the growers’.

The H&M Birmingham manager said that the company’s interest in sustainable materials is increasing, and is proud to offer a high fashion collection made from organic and recycled materials at a good price.
