Who are the RWM?
RWM are The Recycling and Waste Management Exhibition and have been dealing with issues concerning recycling and waste for years. The company is based in Greater London and regularly hold relevant exhibitions that encourage environmental friendliness.
On their official website it states, “The Recycling & Waste Management Exhibition (RWM) is the undisputed leading exhibition for the recycling and waste management sector. It has more exhibitors and more visitors than any other event in the sector; it is also the fastest growing event with growth in visitors and meters of more than 10% each year for the past 5 years.”
RWM have recently put packaging in perspective for us,
“Unnecessary packaging gets most of us ranting – and shopping in supermarkets means you inevitably fill your wheelie bin with plastic. In the Tonight programme, a lady from the WI bemoaned the fact that a cabbage, which nature has handily packaged in protective leaves, is now sold in shrink wrap. So pointless! But at the MRW Conference and then again on Tonight, Jane Bickerstaff of INCPEN, forced me to put packaging in perspective. Packaging contains, protects, preserves, promotes, carries information and reduces wastage and therefore costs. Here’s a fact: selling grapes in trays or bags (something the WI would abhor!) has reduced in-store wastage by 20%. And another: 60% of packaging from industry and households is recovered and recycled.
There are already measures in place to supposedly encourage the minimisation and recycling of packaging – the Packaging Regulations for example. Are they enough though? And what more could our major supermarket chains be doing?”
RWM have been increasing their amount of visitors to their exhibitions over the years and therefore have been raising awareness about waste management. A recent article published by the article states,
‘A survey found that 93 per cent of RWM 08 exhibitors rated visitors as good or excellent, and 77 per cent agreed that visitors matched their customer profile (with only two per cent disagreeing).’
Anna Dunbar, who works for the official RWM PR Agency, told us, ‘There will certainly be news in the coming months.’
RWM are holding their next exhibiton at the NEC in Birmingham on 15th – 17th September 2009.

I think you’r article brings up an important issue of waste, do we really need to use so much packaging on products?! It’s a waste of money as a problem for the enviroment.

I think if I had the choice on whether to buy a lettuce that was packaged or one that wasn’t, I’d always buy the packaged one, it just seems more hygenic and convinient to me, any thoughts?
