West Midlands firm FHM delivers Eco-Refurbishment

West Midlands based firm, Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) has recently delivered an eco-refurbishment to one lucky couple’s home.

The couple, from Bristol were celebrating on Friday (26th February) after being given the keys to their new ‘eco home’. Winners, William Homoky, 29, and Catherine Beswick, 25, were the successful competitors of a national competition aimed at reducing carbon emissions and giving their home an eco makeover.

The firm, FHM is part of the Keepmoat group, who specialise in eco refurbishment and community regeneration. The total cost of the refurbishment to the couples Bristol home was £21,580 and included eco improvements such as: solar photovoltaic panels, energy monitoring devices, loft installation and Bye Bye standby plugs.

Keepmoat became involved with the project through their sponsorship of TV’s Grand Designs’ Great British Refurb Campaign.

Speaking yesterday (3rd March) from the Ecobuild event at Earls Court, winner William said:

“I heard about the competition by going on the 10:10 website as I wanted to introduce some simple measures around the home to reduce carbon emissions. An investment of this size is far beyond what we would have been able to achieve on our own.”

With the introduction of the eco improvements within the couple’s home, William added:

“We’ve managed to save 80% carbon emissions and 103% of our household bills. Myself and Catherine share an interest in science and the environment and believe that rising carbon emissions will have a massive impact on all of us.”

Looking to the future, FHM hopes more people will make changes in their home to become more eco-friendly and cut down on carbon emissions. William and Catherine’s home is a more extreme example but the company believe there are things that everyone can be doing to help reduce carbon emissions.

Simon McWhirter, a campaign director for the Great British Refurb Campaign said:

“Thanks to Keepmoat, we’ve been able to go above and beyond what we were expecting with this project. The results have been absolutely fantastic; we’re starting to see capital costs increase in homes as a result of environmental installations which is good news.”
