Northfield Ecocentre is ready for The Wave
Workers and visitors of the Northfield Ecocentre are excited to put their campaigning skills into practice at The Wave this Saturday.
Last week they held a banner-making workshop, where people used broom poles and old materials to stylise a banner promoting the Ecocentre’s presence at The Wave and creating silhouettes representing themselves.
The Wave is the United Kingdom’s largest demonstration calling for action against climate change and will call on world leaders to take urgent action at the UN’s climate change summit in Copenhagen to secure a fair international deal to stop global warming exceeding the danger threshold of 2 degrees Celsius.
Jane Baker from the Northfield Ecocentre said:
“We care a lot about the issues that The Wave is campaigning against, but the event also has more personal aims for us.
It’s going to be a great way to get the people from our Campaigning for Beginniers group into action.
It will also be a way to get our presence known in Northfield by being proactive and showing that the things we do can make an impact.”
The Ecocentre has been open for nearly a year now and has seen a gradual increase in people getting involved in their projects.
As well as attending The Wave, they are planning on launching a local version of Birmingham Friends of the Earth’s 20’s Plenty campaign.
Jane added:
“It’s important that we meet other groups from Birmingham at The Wave, because it will be nice represent Birmingham as one in this campaign.”
