Birmingham Recycled journalists receive ‘green’ promotional t-shirts
At Monday’s launch, the journalists working for Birmingham Recycled each received an ‘eco-friendly’ promotional t-shirt.
The shirts which have the sites logo printed on the front, are all supplied by EarthPositive and manufactured solely from organically raised cotton.
The gesture was well received by all the journalism students on the team, Philip Gordon said:
”The T-shirt was a really nice touch and has made the website feel like a proper project along with bringing the class together as a team. The material is excellent too – thumbs up! ”
The 30 shirts where printed at TShirt Printing Birmingham in Digbeth. Lee Blake, 34 owner of the shop says he started offering eco friendly garments because he regards it as a growing market, but can’t afford to go completely eco-friendly just yet:
“When I got the idea back in 2004, the EarthPositive t-shirts where double the price of the regular ones. So I made a business decision back then that by 2011, everything will be Fairtrade and EarthPositive, I just don’t want to out-price myself.”
EarthPositive t-shirts are currently around 70% more expensive when compared to the regular garments offered by TShirt Priniting Birmingham.
Minimizing toxins and CO2 emissions
No synthetic fertilizers or toxins can be used in the production of organic cotton. The t-shirts are produced by Continental who has factories in Turkey, India and China. EarthPositive claim they use only ocean shipping in order to reduce transport related emissions. According to their official website, they rely heavily on three months of monsoon rain every year to minimize the use of fuel and energy driven water pumps.
So if you spot one of our team members, please come by and say hello. Chances are they might need your help to get their picture taken.

Ironically I forgot to take one home for my self as I left the rest in Paul’s office.
Going to get one tomorrow though.
