C02 Pledge
Birmingham is one of the two cities in the UK to join the international Green Capital – Global Challenge.
The challenge is an initiative, which aims to drive private – sector investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy products.
Now the mayors of over 500 European cities will challenge their city to reduce C02 emissions
by 20% by 2010.
The pledge signed by these cities will pledge to save energy and raise awareness, and it will be overseen by the Prime Minister of Spain and the EU President. The cities involved will have to measure how much C02 they
emit, then they will have to make a plan to cut these emissions.
The initiative has been backed by Sir Richard Branson, who has signed up cities including, London, Washington DC, Atlanta and New York.
