West Midlands Safari Park celebrates World Environment Day
The West Midlands Safari Park last weekend played host to a variety of activities raising awareness about environmental issues for World Environment Day, which is on Friday 5th June.
The education classroom was turned into a free centre where you could calculate your carbon footprint and learn how to reduce it.
For children there was the chance to make animals and their habitats out of recyclable materials.
One education assistant said:
“The children were having lots of fun making a giant millipede out of old bits of recycled cardboard. It has given them a chance to try and understand issues like recycling.
“We’re trying to break down the problem into small ways that they can help, like turning off the tap when they brush their teeth.”
The Safari Park pride themselves on education their visitors by providing the opportunity to get close to different species of animals, raising awareness of the world’s biodiversity and encouraging people to take action in regards to protecting the environment.
For children they regularly offer education talks, guided tours and informative displays.
