Northfield Ecocentre opens with a bang

Over 50 people attendended this week’s opening of the Northfield Ecocentre , with a royal guest, Deputy Lord Mayor Randal Brew planting the first of many fruit trees.

Georgia Stokes, Northfield Ecocentre coordinator, commented:

“We had a fantastic day. We were amazed by the number of people who came & their enthusiasm for the Ecocentre. Thank you to everyone that came.”

Whilst the weather held out for the eco warriors, the centre was filled with residents from the local area and many other visitors.

Encouraged to take an environmental pledge, the Northfield group still continue to battle carbon footprints and protect the environment with weekly meetings and awareness workshops held regularly.

With more and more volunteers being drawn towards the group, the Ecocentre continues to battle climate change, tackling awareness at a local level.  Further dates have been set to encourage the people of Birmingham to do more within their communities.

Introducing the Northfield Gardening club, held every Saturday between 10am and 1pm, the group hopes to encourage more members to join in.  Georgia added:

“We are open to the public every Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Check out our website for times & come to visit us. Our building is packed with energy saving ideas & we would love to hear yours.”

With many events taking place over the May Bank Holiday, such as awareness campaigns and fairs at Leyhill Park, Cannon Hill Park and Northfield Baptist Church, the group is sure to have an impact on its local area.

Georgia, coordinator and environmental enthusiast commented:

“The Ecocentre will be the success that you make it. We hope people will get involved & learn skills from each other. Between us we have so many fantastic ideas for living more sustainably, the more we share the better our lives will be - for the environment & for us.”

Attending one of the many events planned throughout the forthcoming months may not only be fun, but introduce new energy saving ideas, so why not give it ago?

If the local residents of Northfield can combine to make a unique group such as this, why are the other residents of the West Midlands sitting aside?
