Eco-friendly film premiere breaks world record

Environmentally friendly film The Age of Stupid premiered in London on Sunday 15th March. But this was a film premiere with a difference, called The People’s Premiere, it is the first 100% environmentally friendly premiere ever.

With stars told specifically not to travel by aeroplane to the event, they instead arrived by bikes or electric cars charged from renewable energy sources, to walk down the reusable green carpet.

The film was shown to guests using a solar-powered projector in a tent in Leicester Square. The eco-friendly event also boasted a pedal powered popcorn making machine and only organic food and drink.

The film, starring Pete Postlethwaite and Gillian Anderson, cost just £450,000 to make and was funded entirely by donations from individuals and groups.

It is set in 2055, with Poslethwaite starring as an old man living in a devastated world, looking back at footage from 2008 and asking why didn’t we do more to stop Global Warming?

The People’s Premiere aimed to raise money for the Not Stupid climate change campaign, by beaming the live event to 64 cinemas across the UK, including the Vue at Birmingham’s star city, breaking a world record.

  2. I think this is great, because not only was it being ‘green’, but it was also great publicity for the actual film!
