Conservation Workday at Lickey Hills
A Conservation Workday will be taking place in Birmingham beauty spot Lickey Hills on Sunday 8th March, where members of the public can assist Rangers in their winter preservation work.
The day, which lasts from 11AM until 2PM, is one of several that takes place every winter and autumn and is open to the public because of staff and time shortage.
The conservation work is part of the ongoing Lickey Hills Management plan, which involves work such as the restoration of areas with the plant Heathland by removing the bracken and shrubs that threaten to overwhelm it.
A Lickey Hills Visitors Centre worker said: “The Conservation Workdays are very popular, sometimes they are fully booked!
“The days are important because while Lickey Hills is a natural countryside, it has to be conserved by people because if it is left then it will turn into a wood and all the structures will disappear.
“Involvement from the public makes a tremendous difference because more bodies mean that more work is done in a small amount of time. People find it very fun and entertaining!”
Booking is essential and it is recommended that helpers wear boots or Wellingtons and bring a packed lunch.
For more information please call the Lickey Hills visitors center on 0121 447 7106.

Sounds brilliant, see if you can get a photographer from the team to join. It would make a great flickr/facebook album.
