Birmingham parks for the week beginning 11th July
Birmingham Recycled will now be giving you weekly updates on what’s going on in your local parks. To kick off this annual post, here are the activities taking place this week.
In Cannon Hill Park, an event called Jewels in the Sky will be on Sunday 19th July. A guided, calm walk will look at the many species of butterflies that live in the park, such as Admirals, Emperors, Peacocks and Tortoiseshells. The park rangers ask to meet in the Information Office at 11AM.
Kingfisher Country Park has a similar Butterfly Safari also on Sunday, where younger conservationists can learn about the beautiful animals by making a giant butterfly, playing games and hunting for them in Cole Valley. Again, the time to meet is 11AM at the Information Centre.
On the other side of Birmingham, in the Lickey Hills, there is a double event happening this week. Fairy Fun and Gnome Place like Home are both another ones for the kids, where on Saturday at 11AM they can make fairies and gnomes out of materials and then track them down on a self-guided trail. The trail is available to participate in until September.
At the Shire Country Park in Moseley, there is a chance to help rangers with some practical conservation work in a Common Workday. On Saturday from 10AM – 2PM join local residents helping the community by meeting at the entrance to Billesley Common on Haunch Lane.
Lastly, there is a particularly exciting event taking place: Wychall Bat Night. From 8:30PM onwards on Saturday, join the park rangers to examine the nocturnal habits of the Kings Norton Nature Reserve. Those wishing to get involved are advised to dress up warm and to meet at Burman’s Drive, opposite Wychall Park Grove.
Check back with us next week for more park activities.
