BirminghamRecycled.co.uk is all about experimenting with a collaborative approach to gathering, producing and distributing environmental news from and around Birmingham and the Midlands.

The web is our playground, getting useful content in front of the people who care is the main priority – we don’t just want to hide in our own little corner of the web.

We love social media, we love conversation and want to make every single local media producer, blogger, podcaster and vlogger better by contributing to, and interacting with existing content producers.

The site officially launched in February 2009 and has been carried on by an online newsroom ever since.

We work with the philosophy that online journalism should be fun and engaging for both users and producers. We want to break down the usual barriers between mainstream and citizen media by engaging with existing local communities and focusing on bringing value to the community as a whole.

Using the new breed of online journalism talent, we hope to bring a fresh look and new ideas to the world of online news. Common for all is that we don’t do this for money but out of a shared passion for learning and exploring the environment, social media, journalism, blogging, news and everything in between.
